The quest text is completely wrong it seems. I have not found "Muck Tunnelers" yet in "The Briney Muck". The map with this database entry shows the MOBs as being on the island of Zanvess, and named "Kypari Crawler".

It seems as of patch 5.2, the drop rate of this quest item has been reduced to roughly 1%

Description

Kyparite worms have shown extreme adaptations in order to mimic the environment around them. They can also grow to immense sizes at rates which are nearly unheard of for most creatures. Their physiology could provide valuable insight into further mutations. Bring me sample shards from the muck tunnelers in the shallows near Zan'vess.
