Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Alaria says that the quilboar kidnapped the rest of the expedition... including my son. Chances are we'll have to brave the quilboar's den. That's no small feat. They are far more aggressive and intelligent than the murlocs you faced earlier. I need to make sure I'm not sending you to your death.
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
As a hunter, you need a trustworthy beast at your side... or else these quilboar will slaughter you. When you're ready, I'll teach you how to tame such a beast. Then you must find one to be your loyal companion.
The Missing Expedition has 70 steps, from Warming Up to Aiding the Dragon Isles.
Maps its steps are placed on (steps per map): Exile's Reach (49), Stormwind City (16), The Great Sea (3), The Waking Shores (2).
Steps, storylines and map placement from the client’s QuestLine, prerequisite and QuestPOI data; neighbouring quest text is Blizzard’s own (quest API), shortened to its opening sentences.
