Sometimes it will bug and nothing will happen if you click on the totem. The totem will pop and the corpse will disappear, but you won't get any credit for the quest. Well, it looks like I found out how to avoid that bug.
What causes it:
you untarget the corpse shortly after you click on the totem item. (You can untarget the corpse for any reason, don't forget it's a bug)How to avoid it :
Just make sure you target the corpse for a good 5 seconds after the totem spawn :p and you will get credit for the quest (add will spawn or the corpse will say something).

What to do
Description
Something's wrong here, {name}. The ship's crew has been slain. Yet there is no bloodshed or damage to the ship's structure. This was not the Horde's doing. We will find the answers we seek by speaking to the spirits of the dead. They have not yet left this world. Take this totem and place it near the corpses of the fallen. You will have a few seconds to listen to their last few thoughts. Beware, however! There is no telling how the spirits of the dead will react to our prodding.
Where to go
Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits
Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Diplomacy First
The Earthen Ring is a neutral organization, <name>. We cannot pick sides in the war between the Horde and the Alliance. Look around you -- our members come from all backgrounds. Our mission would be compromised should racial tensions be put above our goal.
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- The Admiral's Cabin
It's possible we'll find further clues inside the admiral's cabin. You will find it directly below us. See if there are any survivors or information that will lead us closer to the World Pillar fragment. Be careful, <name>. Whoever got the crew might still be out there.
