Before you start using your Dalaran Hearthstone or Flight Master's Whistle when you pick this quest up, Dusktalon is nearby. It's a hippogryph that will take you from the Nightfallen camp (where you pick up the quests) directly to Black Rook Hold in Val'sharah.

This is done outside the instance in Val'sharah.
You have to fly to Val'sharah and then go to Black Rook Hold (not an instance, just an area) and there three Telemancy Beacons. Find a hippogryph named Dusktalon, he will take you to the Hold. [item=142258] located everywhere on the ground across the Hold, just pick them up.

What to do
Description
I heard you were traveling to Black Rook Hold. It was once home to the legendary Lord Ravencrest, a brilliant tactician. His knowledge may be exactly what we need to give us an edge against the Duskwatch. While you are at the Rook, keep your eyes peeled for any books that might have survived the ages that outline the Ravencrest's strategems.

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits
Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Citizens' Army
I can barely get these civilians to stand in a straight line. They are untrained, undisciplined, and underarmed. Still, they need to be ready for the real battle. Khadgar suggested we try some field training at the ruins of Black Rook Hold in Val'sharah.
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Trial by Demonfire
We are out of time. I have reports that a pitlord has come to Meredil. I have dispatched a strike force. We cannot let this demon flank our army here, nor can we let him find Shal'Aran. It is time to temper these recruits in a real battle.
