How odd that Lord Walden indicates that only Humans are able to be reanimated as Forsaken. Actually, I had never really thought about it until now-- why is it that the only non-Human Undead are Death Knights? How useful is magical reanimation if it only works on Humans?

In WarCraft III, Raise Dead worked for any and all corpses. Perhaps Skeletons, though, aren't considered part of the Scourge? Or Forsaken?

It requires neither a retcon or a forgetful writer to explain, since there is no contradiction between "every race can be raised as undead" and "the Forsaken can only raise humans". Just because techniques exist to raise other races doesn't mean the Forsaken use them or even know of them. The technique the Forsaken currently use to raise new Forsaken only works on humans. Actually, it probably works on vrykul as well, but that's humanity's ancestor race. It's Val'kyr, who were vrykul in life, who are doing the raising, and they apparently only know how to do their own kind, and humans, who

The forsaken are a very specific type of undead, raised not through outright necromancy, but through the use of a plague. The plague specifically only works on humans, which is mentioned in WC3.All other undead that exist, exist through the use of necromancy. Thats why they were able to regain their free will, and why they dont need a constant source of magic to stay functioning.Think of it as biological vs magical in nature.

What to do

StorylineSilverpine Forest, step 52 of 57
Rewards4,100 XP

Description

Our enemies are becoming smarter - adapting to our tactics. Recently an attack was made upon Pyrewood Village, southwest of here. Our troops occupying the town were decimated, of course, but what made the attack especially interesting was the racial composition of the attacking force. No humans were used. <Walden laughs.> Rightfully, they fear being reanimated as Forsaken. Let us teach the non-humans a lesson in fear. Together we will show them what happens to corpses that we cannot use.
