TheWoWDBI was able to get this quest by using the void portal in Dornogal by the flight master at 44.83 49.94 which takes you to K'aresh. Doing this gives you the quest, "The Pursuit Continues". Do NOT turn that in but DROP it instead. Return to Dornogal. Now you should see a tiny void orb labeled Messenger Aelor in that same spot which offers you the quest, "The Pursuit Continues". However, after accepting the quest Messenger Aelor himself appears briefly in person offering this quest, "Lessons in the Void". If you don't grab it quick enough he disappears - if that happens redrop the Pursuit quest and Aelor will reappear again as the tiny orb and you can repeat the steps. (Note my friend on a remix toon saw the small void orb offering the Pursuit quest directly so you may find either option)
This quest IS shareable so if your main can not get it, you should be able to get it with help from a friend (althought this did not work for me sadly and I ended up doing on an alt-the share kept saying I was missinbg a Pre-req.)
NOTE: My understanding is that you can lock yourself out of this account-wide breadcrumb quest
if you have done the followup quest, A Common Cause" on any toon.I realIzed I had done that quest but wasn't locked so not sure which quest does it.Thanks to various comments on Data for Azeroth and All The Things discords for the process - just sharing the steps here that worked for me.

You can't get this quest if any character on your account did the questline during 11.2.
I think if you did "A Common Cause" thats enough to make it impossible for someone to get this quest in 12.0
As a completionist it feels bad when i get punished for doing content when it comes out and later they add impossible breadcrumbs. Even Alts can't get it because it's an account wide flag
I just got this quest from Messenger Aelor in Silvermoon City; took the portal, handed in the quest... Did not get a follow-on quest. Did not see a quest marker on anyone.
Eventually worked out that I could talk to Magister Umbric. He gave me the quest Common Cause. I sure hope this works.

An apprentice of his, Leona Darkstrider, is investigating the techniques and methods of the illidari. It appears her inquiries may have put her in a bit of trouble. The Magister can fill you in. He's in K'aresh now, and he's allowed me to open the way for you if you require transportation.
