You need to put the paste on before entering Tidefury Cove, or the shark will not trigger properly.

If you put the paste on in the Cove, swim back to Nat's Landing and then back into the Cove. This should trigger the shark.

I just did this quest just moment ago, I swam to the deepest part of the water in Cove, smeared myself in that stuff... waited... and waited.. for 30 minutes... so I came on here and looked what I need to do exactly.

I'm going to say that you gonna smear yourself BEFORE you leaving Nat's Landing, swim behind Nat [heading west on the map (or rather, go left on the map)], do not go forward from him; just head to where shark should be at. I did this and he swam right at me, so you gonna put it on before you go in water, and it'll work rather than sitting around wait for it to come to you.

The Shark is only level 37 non-elite, it's easy to solo and all.

Description

So you found a copy of Dastardly Denizens of the Deep, did you? Well, I can tell you from experience, it's all true. I've even seen a few of 'em with my own eyes. But you want to know about Tethyr. I said I'd make you a deal, so here's what I want you to do. I'm working on a new line of baits, but I haven't tested this one yet. Just take this paste -- yeah, it smells a little foul -- smear it on yourself, and swim into the deep part of Tidefury Cove to the southwest. Let me know how it works!

Where to go

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Before this quest

  • Is it Real?Dustwallow Marsh · Level 15-30

Oh, I'm sure you and Babs had a good laugh over the outlandish descriptions and sketches in the book, but have you stopped to consider there might be some truth to the legends?

After this quest

Taken from the storyline's own step order.

  • Oh, It's RealDustwallow Marsh · Level 15-30

Yes, Tethyr is certainly real, and he lives in the waters off Theramore. Has a thing for bright lights. He's the reason they shut down the lighthouse in the first place, you know... And if you light it up again, he'll come right back. But no one in their right mind would do that.
