Very annoying quest, especially with mana users.
Entrance is at 52, 33. The Crystal Altar you summon Alumeth is at the middle back of the vault at 51, 27.
You have 2 minutes to get the four pieces and then combine them or they despawn from your inventory. They are soul bound and must be gathered by one person. Once made, Alumeth's Remains stay in your inventory until he is summoned.
As you enter the vault area, the Heart is in a chest at the front end of the table on your right, the Scepter is in a chest at the other end of that table on your right, and the Robes are in a chest against the back wall to the right of the Altar. The Skull is in a chest against the left middle wall.
You do not have to clear the entire room. Clear enough to get to the four chests first and only then gather them. The Cult Researchers cast Mind Blast that does an aoe knockback and shadow damage, and Wail of Souls that does about 20% mana burn per hit over a several seconds (you can easily go OOM).
Alumeth is a level 81 elite with about 260k hp. He melees, casts Mind Flay for about 3k damage per tic over 5 seconds, and Dominate Mind (psychic fear) randomly.

The Icecrown is done! Leave your comments/sugestions at my comment in Icecrown zone. Thanks everyone who helped me to make it via comments on wowhead and in-game pre-quest tracking.
As of 3.08, he now has 104k HP. Mindflay ticks for about 1500 instead of 3k.
I was barely able to solo him as a Naxx25 geared feral Druid. Things I learned that helped:
- He spawns right after you use his remains. However, if you stealth as soon as you're done channeling, you can get your opener.
- He is susceptible to stuns, immune to Maim. Pounce and get some good bleed damage going, then switch into Bear.
- Save Berserk for a fear. You could wear a PVP trinket to break two, but I just ate the second.
- Use Bash on his first Mind Flay, Barkskin on the second.

What to do
Description
These fools have actually stumbled upon something that could pose a serious threat to our plans! The leader of this particular sect, Alumeth, has ritualistically sacrificed himself and now his underlings are channeling power to his soul. If he's allowed to rest, their efforts will soon transform him into a mighty adversary. Combine his heart, skull, scepter and robes from around their chamber and use his remains on the crystal there. Hurry, {race}! Destroy him before he becomes any more powerful!

Where this quest fits
Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Need More Info
The Cult of the Damned are notorious for concocting grandiose plans that in the end, rarely succeed. But something feels different this time.... Perhaps it's the proximity to the Lich King that has their fervor heightened. Whatever it is, they appear to be more confident than ever.
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- Raise the Barricades
When our forces begin to move beyond Aldur'thar, they will be vulnerable to attack from the Ironwall Rampart and the broad glacier below. We have neither the time nor the materials to build fortifications, but we can put up some barricades to shield our men from fire and break up Scourge charges.
