The Twilight Invaders and the Desecrated Earthbringer needed from the quest all spawn from portals on either side of the main chamber, in the back hallways.
You have to enter either of the two faction chambers in the Temple of Earth to trigger this quest. I leave this comment to those of you that were as confused as I was.
Just to emphasize what the previous poster said: The mobs will not spawn in the main chamber but rather in one of the back chambers.
