This quest is part of the means of getting your second active pet slot (and second pet) as a new hunter. The beast you encounter on this quest will be what you can tame in the next quest, and corresponds to your race's unique starting pet as seen on the character creation menu (for example, blood elves get a dragonhawk, pandaren get a turtle, and so on).

What to do
Description
Now that you have your trap, we can move onto the true problem at hand. A strange creature not native to this island has been stalking our camp. I think we should capture it and see how it can help us. Set the freezing trap within these ruins to lure it out. We'll see just what we are dealing with.
Where to go
Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.

Where this quest fits
Before this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- A Hunter's Trap
If you want to be called a true hunter, you'll need to learn the art of trapping. Fortunately, I happen to be an expert in it. First, you will need to gather supplies from the surrounding area so you can fashion a proper freezing trap. Herbert can supply you with a mote of ice.
After this quest
Taken from the storyline's own step order.
- A Mage's Knowledge
You've got some good spells for a novice mage. There are a few things holding you back, though. For instance, it's absolutely clear to me you don't know Polymorph. If you did, you would've been using it on the harpies that were attacking us! Let's fix that.
The storyline at a glance
The Missing Expedition has 68 steps, from Warming Up to Home Is Where the Hearth Is.
Maps its steps are placed on (steps per map): Exile's Reach (47), Orgrimmar (14), The Waking Shores (3), The North Sea (2).
