The practice of replacing your own name with a communal one has some precedent in the real world - for example the Sikh. When the religion was founded, India had a strict caste system and people would not even eat at the same table as their social inferiors. The Sikh instituted a shared communal kitchen where free food was served and everyone ate together at the same level (irrespective of caste, gender, religion, race or wealth) - on the floor. But there were still implicit divisions among people because you could tell what caste someone was simply by their family name.

So upon initiation, all Sikh men were given the surname Singh (lion) and all women were given Kaur (princess). That way everyone was equal and part of a shared community.

If you've competed Antorus, Icecrown Citadel, or Dragon Soul, you'll get some humorous new dialogue options when choosing your new "Akundasona", respectively. Of course, Akunda the Exalted still won't let you in if you tell him of such feats, but it's still a pretty nice touch on Blizzard's part.

I defeated the Burning Legion. Seriously? You don't know who I am?

I only know Akunda.
My tales of triumph over the Lich King didn't reach your shores?

I ask your name, yet you tell stories?

I slayed Deathwing. Surely you've heard of me?

Deathwing? What kind of feeble creature has such a name?

Edit: Replaced completion of The Sunwell with Antorus in light of new information.

You can choose any name you want.
It is just a name other people and you will see above your character in Temple of Akunda.
Just for fun i guess.
It is just "Akunda" buff. You can drop it anytime you want to.

Pins are the quest’s own POI points from the current retail client, projected onto the in-game zone map. The game marks one blob as the quest’s turn-in; the rest are objective areas. Points that fall outside a map’s window are dropped rather than guessed at.
