No Arator there to meet me and area feels very empty. I didn't play during SL so never completed the Maw campaign so this bit of the questline may be unavailable to those like me unless we go back and finish that old questline from SL.

This wasn't working for me either (because I didn't play SL) until I turned on low level quests and found The Brand Holds the Key quest in a cave nearby. Freed Darion, found his dad and took the portal to Oribos. Then I skipped back through portals (or hearthstone) to K'Aresh and tried the portal to the Maw once more to see if that worked. Yes. I was sent to Forlorn Respite and Arator was finally there. Hope this helps!

I cannot get this quest to work. It did once for a minute then has me phased out even though I have completed the prereq's and disabled all addons and reset UI as blizzard recommended. I cannot find out what I am missing to get this to work.

Description

Getting you into the Maw to visit his auntie, Sylvanas, can be done... but at no small risk to Arator. Under no circumstance should he linger there. However, that is your business. I am in the business of keeping my slates clean, and this is something I can do for you. The engine of Tazavesh can power a gateway and allow the two of you to break into that dreadful place.
